Youth training and chess courses 25

Most teaching here happens in clubs: their youth groups usually meet on the club night, before the adults’ evening. Outside the clubs, the Schachschule Düsseldorf works with primary schools and runs tournaments for young players such as the MARKUS-Cup in Vennhausen. The Junior Uni Wuppertal teaches beginners’ courses called Schachspielen mit Köpfchen, for seven to ten year olds in the autumn holidays and for eleven to fourteen year olds on four Saturdays from January 2027, for a small fee.

Adults have two offers. The Volkshochschule Krefeld runs a weekly chess circle for people from fifty on Mondays, and the chess group of the Hochschulsport Düsseldorf plays and trains on Friday evenings during the semester, for beginners and advanced players. The circle runs on fifteen Mondays until January 2027, the university group through the winter semester.
